Book update

THANK YOU, all, for your thoughtful recommendations!
I picked up a copy of "Tigana," but I'm finding it slow going so far. I think it will have to wait until I'm feeling less frazzled... I don't think I'm paying enough attention to get all the information it seems to be packing in. It's beautifully written, and I will definitely give it another chance, but for now... it's not quite clicking with me.
I tried to find "By George," but it's not available here (Borders is about it for books around here... there's a used bookstore called Prospero's, but I've been kind of boycotting them since they pulled a book-burning stunt to get rid of stock they couldn't move). Yay, Amazon Marketplace!
A few more comments came in, and I decided to take Uncanny's suggestion of the Munroe short story collection augmented with "Straight Man." I just finished the first story in the collection (the title story, "Hateship, Friendship, Courtship, Loveship, Marriage," and I loved it. It will be hard not to gobble up more, but I shall take your advice and keep them to one per day.
I've put several more of your suggestions on my wishlist, and am looking forward to getting to them as Linc gets older and less demanding.
I'm so fortunate to have such literary and brilliant friends!
