THANK YOU, all, for your thoughtful recommendations!

I picked up a copy of "Tigana," but I'm finding it slow going so far. I think it will have to wait until I'm feeling less frazzled... I don't think I'm paying enough attention to get all the information it seems to be packing in. It's beautifully written, and I will definitely give it another chance, but for now... it's not quite clicking with me.

I tried to find "By George," but it's not available here (Borders is about it for books around here... there's a used bookstore called Prospero's, but I've been kind of boycotting them since they pulled a book-burning stunt to get rid of stock they couldn't move). Yay, Amazon Marketplace!

A few more comments came in, and I decided to take Uncanny's suggestion of the Munroe short story collection augmented with "Straight Man." I just finished the first story in the collection (the title story, "Hateship, Friendship, Courtship, Loveship, Marriage," and I loved it. It will be hard not to gobble up more, but I shall take your advice and keep them to one per day.

I've put several more of your suggestions on my wishlist, and am looking forward to getting to them as Linc gets older and less demanding.

I'm so fortunate to have such literary and brilliant friends!

I hope you are enjoying your book.

Linc just hurled all over my back as we were asleep in bed. Hit both our hair and every single piece of bedding. He's in the tub now (and says he is feeling better).

Fortunately we have the spare bed in here with bedding on, so we're going to move there for the rest of the night.

Oh NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

I'd call you, hon, but I'm hoping you are both deeply and restfully asleep. You can call anytime, though... I'll keep the phone with me.

I am soooo sorry, for both of you! Wish I could do something to help...

He was fine all the rest of the night and says he is feeling perfectly fine now. Aside from being on high alert all the rest of the night every time he moved a muscle I was able to get some sleep too.

Coulda been a lot worse I suppose.

Still, pretty freakin' awful and I"m so sorry you had to deal with it on your own... {{{hugs}}} to both of you!

Pukies are definitely one of the worst parts of parenting. Bleah. Here's hoping that you miss out on it...

Since the eruption his guts have been completely fine; must have been something he ate.

Printing out boarding passes now, heading for the airport in about an hour. Can't wait to be home!

late to the party...just gotta say that wasn't really why prospero's did the book burning. they were making a semi-anarchist point, i promise. ;)

Meant to tell you before How honored I am that you're reading Munro and Russo. Hope you like them!

As my eyes get worse, it's becoming harder and harder to read (on paper, at any rate... I can crank up screen fonts to screaming headline sizes)... this means my patience with books has become very short. So I'm jazzed to find that you seem to have a good grasp on what works for me (I've already read -- and loved -- a number of your other recommendations). Can I just keep you on retainer for future literary pointers? (Hope I can afford you!)
