Good thoughts for Wiley, please!

He got hold of a corncob the day before last, and while I knew I shouldn't have let him play with it, I didn't take it away as fast as I should have.
He started crying out in his sleep last night (which I didn't hear, but Clay told me about this morning) and yelped again while walking and lying down this morning. I watched him... he's had joint issues before, but it wasn't like that this time. He acted for all the world like a colicky horse (hunched up, paddling his hind legs, looking back at his rear, very still and not wanting to move, tense flanks).
Called the vet, they couldn't see him until 2 today. Did some 'net searches, turns out that corncobs are a common cause of bowel obstructions in dogs. Shit.
Got him up and walking around, he seemed a little perkier... wagged his tail a little bit, got down the stairs okay with some coaxing, went out and peed, seemed interested in food and water (but I didn't let him have any). Decided I didn't want to wait around for potential perforation or peritonitis, and called the vet again. They agreed to take a look at him and see what they could do.
So he's there waiting for a vet to clear him for x-rays, and then we'll go from there. Bowel surgery could be anywhere from $800 to $3,000, depending on a lot of things.
The way he looked at me when I left him... jeez, I feel like the worst dog owner in the world.
ETA: Vet just called. Totally confirmed the comparison to a horse with colic. Got x-rays, didn't see anything huge, twisted or necrotic (dead tissue), which is fantastic news. His large intestine is apparently packed with corn and undigested (but thankfully chewed-up) corncob... they're gonna give him a big ol' enema and empty him out, and see if his problem was just a bad case of constipation. Fingers crossed...
Short version: Wiley is at the vet, vet just called and we have hope that it's not as bad as we first thought; we'll know more in a little while.
