Woke up just before 7 a.m. all hot and sweaty (this house has ZERO air movement on the top floor, and the placement of the working outlets makes it hard to set up fans to help) but a shower helped. Fixed my hair but it still looked like it belonged to the unholy offspring of Shirley Temple and Severus Snape. Made a cup of tea and took the Sunday paper to the backyard to read, where I watched two starlings futiley trying to fill up their insatiable fledglings. I feel your pain, Mom and Dad.

Nobody was awake yet and I was feeling peckish, so I grabbed the Alice Munroe collection and headed out to find some sustanance. Landed at Panera (tried to bring my business to a couple local places, but they weren't open yet), and slowly nibbled on a pecan roll, a spinach souffle, a mocha and a story.

Brought home a cheese slipper for the hungry boys, and snagged Bill for some shopping (thanks for watching Linc, Clay!). We found some nice American Tourister luggage at a yard sale (and will now give away all our other problematic luggage). Then we went to Home Depot for box fans and some colorful plants for the front entryway. Gerbera daisies just always seem like they're grinning at me, the Labrador Retriever of flowers; I love having a box of them to greet me when I come home.

I'd whined about a birthday cake last night, so then we went to the store to get Scharffenberger so Bill could make me a torte ("Squeak, squeak," said the wheel). We also got Mojito makings and gin to try our hands at the yummy red bell pepper/mint/lime drink we had at Manifesto. I should be well-oiled by the time we get to "Star Trek" tonight, at the new downtown theater... we got two tickets to their fancy-schmancy room, with lounge chairs and tableside service, w00t!

[livejournal.com profile] jedusor send me a Frazz book (even better than I thought it would be: an underground homeschooling grown-up Calvin!). My folks sent a nice check that I'll get some new Junonia duds with. Clay even gave me a hug with one of his friends in the room (a tremendous feat for a 15yo boy).

Thanks for all the sweet birthday wishes, via e-mail and Facebook and smoke signal. It's been absolutely loverly so far!

No, your memory is not abysmal this time. I wandered in. I like to wish people a happy birthday. Birthdays should be filled with happy wishes.

I'm here via someone else's live journal, I think it might have been through matociquala. Now it's my turn to apologize for my abysmal memory. I read a comment you made, I don't remember which one, followed the link to your profile, and journal, and bookmarked. Had not figured out how to add friends on LJ at that time. (yes, I'm so new here I squeak when I type) Impressed with homeborn, homeschooled children. My youngest daughter's children are homeborn and she is homeschooling. Figured I might pick up some hints for her here. Impressed with your crafts. I, too, like making things.

I don't post much. I'm afraid I'm a very boring individual. I originally got the LJ account to put up earrings on the auction for the accessible house.

And I like the way you express yourself.

Our one common friend is [livejournal.com profile] elisem, which is why I thought you maybe were at WisCon.

Thank you for your kind words!
