The transmission is totally, irrevocably b0rked.
Rebuilt tranny and labor: $4,168
Salvaged tranny and labor (if we could find one, which so far has proven difficult): $3,100
Resale value (if it were in great shape): $1,500 to $3,000
I'm not feeling too good right now.

Date: 2009-03-30 10:57 pm (UTC)And thanks for the sympathy. Yeah, we'll be okay being a one-car family again, but... it's gonna suck.

Date: 2009-03-30 11:01 pm (UTC)Wonder if you can get a used car for less than $3000? I bet you can, and it might just be worth it now.

Date: 2009-03-31 01:24 am (UTC)Also... no more road trips. THAT sucks.

Date: 2009-03-31 03:46 am (UTC)at the risk of pissing you off with excessive cheeriness, this is a good opportunity to flex your environmental muscles. Bill is close to work and wanted to start walking or biking anyway, so you'll have a car during the day. how many other places can you walk, bike, or take a bus to free up/make the car last longer?
(I can picture you response now, because i'm sure KC has shitty busses and bad biking and is hot. But, at the same time, i'm honestly impressed with how many trips are possible once you start looking.)
Lack of road trips do suck. that will have to be fixed somehow.
*hug*

Date: 2009-03-31 05:54 am (UTC)You're right about the shitty busses and bad biking. The prevailing notion here is that bicyclists who get hit were asking for it (and it happens a LOT). And they're getting ready to cut the bus services again... also, can't take the dog on it. We're already doing more walking... this is definitely a more pedestrian-oriented area than the one we were housesitting in, with a really nice park and pool about a block away.
There will be lemonade. But right now, the pile of lemons is looking pretty overwhelming, and I'm indulging my whiny self for a bit before digging in the drawer for the big-girl panties.
