Nov. 6th, 2008 01:32 amSo at the juggling festival in St. Louis about two and a half weeks ago, I had an errant club come down on my bare foot, handle-first (we HAD to be barefoot, it was a dance studio). It really, REALLY hurt, but after I sat down for a bit, I was able to get around okay. It was twingy for a while, and a week later, I had an impressive bruise that moved towards and up my toes as it dissipated.
Then I went out canvassing in Raytown, where sidewalks are apparently not part of the local culture. It was a lot of uneven footing, and I was wearing my Birkenstocks... not the best hiking shoes. Still, I got through it, a little gimpy, but nothing spectacular.
The next day, it started swelling. By this morning, it was really unhappy... I couldn't go up or down the stairs without stopping at each step, and it's really tender. I visited my doc, who xrayed it, and while he couldn't see anything huge, he said it was probably a stress fracture and to take it easy for a while. I was supposed to get a "cast shoe," a kind of clog with velcro, but the pharmacy only had sizes Dinky and Clown Shoe available, and I decided to pass.
So... home today, elevated and iced. I'm feeling a bit sheepish and a little miffed. I go back in two weeks if it's not all better.
In kitchen news: beef-barley soup, butterscotch sauce, pumpkin bread, lentil chili, cornmeal biscuits, okonomiyaki, meat loaf... we ate GOOD this weekend, yes we did! All homemade. And of course the freeze gave way to 70-degree sunny days... I want to bake squash and make soup, and it's hard when you're in shorts and the windows are all wide open. We've got another freeze coming later this week, though, and it's been raining a bit tonight, so maybe the weather's gonna start acting like it's November soon. I have some lovely pie pumpkins here awaiting their doom...
