Two Cordisms and some more travel
May. 13th, 2008 02:20 amMe (after dinner): Is there anything in my teeth?
Julia: Nope.
Cordell: How about me?
Julia: Why? You don't care!
Cordell: You're right, I don't.

Driving along, I showed Cord the rainbow ring I'm wearing on my right hand and wondered about the stones in it. Then I said something about the rainbow stones in my wedding ring, and show that one to him too. Cord, startled: "Whoa! How'd you do that? (he thought I was showing him the same ring, just flipped over) That would have to be the One Ring of Gaydor."

I'm currently curled up in bed at the fabulous home of Kat and Scotty. I'm inches away from yet another bookshelf full of Terry Pratchett, and above a library crammed with endless opportunities to while away many hours. The drive was amazing... I slid through traffic like a hot knife through butter (don't worry, Mom... a very safely driven hot knife!). I dropped Cord off at a downtown SF BART station, then stopped at Westlake for a duffle bag and a pair of cheap sandals. The weather was still fantastic, so I gathered up all the loose crap in the car and put the top down again for the short hop down the coast... definitely the right decision! Crystal Method (Vegas) and Moby (Play), sparkling ocean, blue skies, eucalyptus trees, smiling people...
Our family lived in Pacifica from when I was about 7 until I was a sophomore in high school. The drive from SF to Linda Mar felt WAY shorter than it ever did when I was a kid. I really wanted to stop and walk out onto the pier, but I didn't want to do Devil's Slide in the dark (or keep my hosts waiting). Still... little pangs at seeing Vallemar, Rockaway, the bowling alley, Pacifica Lumber... little reminders of when we were here. I kept slipping into thinking, "Man, I wish we'd never left," but really I needed to keep saying "Jeebus! How fantastically lucky I got to live HERE where I was a kid!"
Got here well before dark, fortunately, and was able to visit with Kat for a bit before her sweetie arrived. He gave me the Official Tour, then we ate a delightful concoction of sausage, veggies and beans accompanied by goat cheese and sundried tomatoes on toasted rosemary ciabatta while watching The Daily Show and Colbert Report on Tivo. I was introduced to "Ninja Warrior," and we managed to get through all of Season 17 before turning into pumpkins.
Zzzzz.
