Happy New Year's Eve!
Dec. 31st, 2006 08:53 pmWe're in California... all is well, we're happily settled at Chez HALFLAB, Linc hasn't broken anything yet, and the weather has been fantastic. My parents are doing okay... my dad seems fine, my mom was too tired to really do much of anything today, but nothing near the crisis state of the last visit.
I've had the good fortune to meet up with two of the three people from high school that I've stayed in touch with (the third is recovering from an illness... heal well, j!)... and I'll be seeing two more wonderful friends on the central coast over the next few days. Then my sister and her husband fly out for a quick visit, then home on the 7th.
It sounds like Bill and the kids are not only keeping the homefires burning, but building a whole new fireplace in the process... he's been fixing and replacing several broken things, and it sounds like perhaps a new major appliance will be in residence by the time I get home (not sure on this... I'll post more about it when it actually happens).
California is glorious. I forgot my sunglasses, and had to buy new ones, because the sun has been shining nonstop. Linc's played in several parks, and today we killed an hour at the Petaluma Municipal Airport, watching all the weekend pilots heading off for their adventures.
I stubbed my right pinky toe really badly while stumbing around before flying out stupid early on Friday morning. It's black and blue and really pretty now, and the swelling has gone down enough that I can get the Uggs on again (I was in Birkies only). I really think I might have broken it, but they don't do anything for those toes, right? Just tape 'em to the next one, I think. So I limped around for a couple days. It's better now, though when Linc dances over it, I'm pretty skittish...
The night before I left, Bill said something about a grant he was applying for making it so we would have to stay another year in KC. It's a good grant, and it would help him land a better job down the road... but it really surprised me at how shaken I was at the idea of staying here a year longer than this fall.
more later... Linc needs some diaper support. Anyway, happy new year, everyone!
