rise and shine
Apr. 2nd, 2005 09:20 amup early two days in a row... friday to get julia to the airport to send her to NY for the weekend with my sister,
firefly1, and then again to get cordell to his refereeing job. lincoln woke up happy both times and stayed happy through the drives, thank goodness.
bill's in san diego for the big drosophila conference. we just don't communicate as much anymore without the two hiptops. birthday fairy, i hope you're listening! the downside of that, though, is the rotten fact that i just don't think i'm going to get to go to california in may. i went last year and had a wonderful time, but the cash just isn't here for this year. we have to figure out how to get to davenport for the IJA festival and los angeles for the NPL con this summer. we can drive to the fest, i think...
had a lovely lunch wednesday with sandy brown, but left the wooden rattle clay had as a baby at the restaurant. i'm actually really sad about losing that toy... babies love it, it makes a nice sound, and it had a family history.
the thing that happened is that julia took it from linc because she thought he was being too loud with it, and when i saw she had it, i dropped it from my mental inventory list. does anyone else have one of these? it works pretty well for me, as long as i'm the only one in charge of things. if i have "help," things get shifted and then dropped (because my "helpers" don't take it as seriously as i do). i get accused of being a control freak, but then i remember the Calvin & Hobbes comic that nailed it... calvin asked his dad what a control freak was, and his dad answered something like "it's what lazy folks call people who care enough to get things done. if anything gets done at all, its because one of us did it." (calvin then asks, "am i in the presence of their king? should i kneel?") people ask why it's so hard to delegate, but it's easy... there's no way to be sure you're delegating to a control freak. if you are, then it'll get done. if not, it'll get done after you hear post-deadline that the moron you delegated to didn't do it and then you have to do it while taking care of the fallout, and you swear that next time, you'll just do it yourself in the first place and save yourself the stress and hassle of being duped AGAIN.
ok, gotta haul another kid off to the football pitch. oh, we're in the states... make that the soccer field!
