The passage of the horrible anti-gay-marriage constitutional amendment in California (and, I believe, Florida, Arkansas and Arizona) was an utterly heartwrenching part of a day that should have been a fantastic celebration. The fact that it happened in my home state, a place I've seen as a leader in the arena of civil rights and equality, made it all the more nauseating.
