Does anyone out there have experience with Adobe Buzzword, a free online word processor and document storage service? I'm poking around and thinking about using it for NaNoWriMo on a friend's recommendation, but I'd like to hear from others... does it go down or lock you out at random times? It just seems a little bit too good to be true.

I know nothing about it -- but it sounds like it might be useful. I'll watch this thread with interest.

I'd just use Google Docs for that -- but maybe Buzzword does cool stuff I don't know about?

I've been using it for a few months now and have had no problems with it.

Buzzword for NaNoWriMo

Well, first let me freely admit that I'm biased, since I've been working on Buzzword for a couple years. I've also been a NaNoWriMo fan during that time, and often thought that using Buzzword for the November writing spree would be a great idea. (Of course, I haven't yet taken the NaNoWriMo plunge).

Buzzword has been very stable since we launched it a year and a half ago. When we have an occasional planned outage (like to upgrade software), we have a little notification message that appears with plenty of notice - but we don't expect any of those in November.

Buzzword also exports to Word and other formats, so you can always dump your current version into a file for safe-keeping.

The cool things about Buzzword for NaNoWriMo are:
- Available from any computer. You can write on your friends' machines.
- We store doc versions, so you can go back and grab old chapters
- Easy to share with others - get feedback and ideas in real time
- Easy to publish the document when you're complete
- And, most importantly, we show your word count full-time.

Google Docs is also a fine way to go - it does all of the above. The real difference between the two is that Buzzword is just a richer environment, and feels like a real word processor, with nice effects and elegant user interface. AND, Buzzword can show you exactly how your document will print - page breaks, headers/footers, etc.

Get Buzzword at buzzword.com (which re-routes to buzzword.acrobat.com) and get an account - it's free and takes about 20 seconds.

Enjoy, and good luck with NaNoWriMo!
