For the quilting moms of geneticists out there...

This morning, we were making bacon (no, you perverts... REAL bacon), and Bill asked about shaping it after it cooks, because it gets stiff once it cools. I told him about seeing woven bacon, and he said it would make a good bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwich. I said, "No. That would be a bacon lattice and tomato sandwich."

Earlier, I was wondering aloud about the words 'introvert' and 'extrovert.' Bill said he was a baconvert (yes, he has a one-track mind), and I said, "Wouldn't that mean green bacon?" A quick Googling told me that the root 'vert' was "to turn" than green (that was 'verde,' leading to things like 'verdant'). I wondered about vertical, and that was horizontal turned. Okay. So what about vertex, as in the top of something? Well, that came from verte, too... from the top of your head, where the hair turns in a swirl. Cool, huh?

Something [livejournal.com profile] pantryslut wrote recently about homecooking reviving the spirit hit home with me today. After I saw the lovely film "Young@Heart" with my friend Anne, I decided to stop by Whole Foods for some dinner inspiration. I really miss shopping at a GOOD market, and loaded up on tons of cool veggies and ingredients. I've got a lovely potato, green bean, cauliflower, onion and mushroom curry simmering right now, a rambutan to try later, supplies to make my own granola, things to make a fresh pounded Thai curry paste later this week, and of course the staples (yogurt, bread, eggs, etc.).

Snagged the "fake" Ben Folds album, good stuff. Thank you, Lunchboy.

Still mesmerized by the Palin stories... wow. This kid sounds like a real charmer. I know I'M gonna sleep safer knowing Iraqi buses will be under this guy's eyes.

Time to snarf some curry, oh yeaaaahhh....
