We're at the Petaluma Quality Inn, chowing on waffles (and, for cord,
bagels and danishes).
Got out to the car yesterday morning
and couldn't lower the convertible top because the trunk wouldn't latch.
We messed with it a bit, then gave up and headed to Konditorei for a
stupendous breakfast. Mary and Keith met us there, and the smiling Eve
Dunaway was there celebrating mama day with her own mom, hubby Dr. John,
brother Todd and lovely daughter Beka.
After quiche Lorraine (shout-out to my wonderful mother-in-law... you
sick of that grandbaby yet, L.?) and a transcendent cherry Danish,
accompanied by a series of remarkable hitchhiking stories, Keith
magically repaired the busted convertible top and we headed back to the
festival.
Sunday's fest is a blur in my mind right now... many faces from my
college days appeared, including the magical Cate, who taught me to
braid over 20 years ago! Her gift of sage, collected by her daughters as
they camped the week before, was tucked into the pocket of my new
rainbow tie-dye dress... I'm enjoying the aroma now as I write this.
Julia and I wandered a bit... scored a bit of dyework for Cord and
Linc... picked up some mother's day goodies for my mom... sampled some
lovely vegan samosas... visited with Doug and Michael and Peter and Eve
and Dawn and many many others... braided some braids... did I mention
Keith loaned me birkies so my feet didn't hurt so much? Now THAT'S
chivalry for you!
Cord connected with his friend Nick (pals since maybe age 4?) and Julia
with her adored Sarah... they went off to have their own adventures all
day (though they both returned to help during teardown). Returned to
Tosi's to load up luggage, then decided that after being on my feet all
day, I deserved a sit-down dinner. So we went back into town for some
nummy Dos Coyotes grub, which completely turned around my crankiness. So
glad we didn't settle for Taco Bell!
However, this made us too late to enjoy any part of Mother's Day with my
own mom. The drive in the dark (top up, tyvm) was really crowded, and
construction on Hwy. 12 made that already horribly narrow road even more
crunched. I hope they're adding a divider... that's a deadly stretch
there. We listened to more of Cord's music, laughed a lot, dropped Julia
at her grandparents, and then Cord and I crashed at a nearby motel.
After we finished the pictured breakfast, we grabbed a gorgous bouquet
of flowers, some fresh peaches and cherries along with some other
nummies, and hauled it all to my folks' house.
Between reading snippets of the heartbreaking news of the China quake
via my cellphone (my mom had CNN on TV... not a word for over half an
hour. WTF?!), my folks and I had a nice visit. Now we're grabbing some
lunch at the Redwood Cafe, and once I drop off Cord at a BART station,
I'm off to Moss Beach... top down!
