we're in seattle, and i'm having a little trouble with the internet connection, but i think i can post a quick update...
the trip is going along great so far! there have been a few little hitches, mostly sickness and heat and exhaustion, but the positives are outweighing the difficulties by quite a bit. the badlands, rushmore, and particularly yellowstone have been fabulous. montana was beautiful and friendly; we saw about six bald eagle nests on power line supports! here are some pictures... flickr's acting up and won't let me edit them, but maybe you can see 'em at least.
visited with bill's mom and dad and grandmother in spokane... much wonderful food but sort of low energy due to everyone still sick, and a heat wave. but linc did his tricks and passed muster, i think! also visited with bill's sister laura and her husband mike in seattle... they took us out for sushi (really good, fresh, artful sushi!), on their 12th anniversary, no less! plus laura stopped by later with chocolate she brought me all the way from paris, mmmm.
got in a quick visit at qarin and james' house... baby wilhelmina is gorgeous, and amelia is a beautiful, bright, challenging three-year-old, who reminds me a lot of little julia. jules and amelia played a really cute version of hide and seek, with amelia's amendment that the hider takes along a block that is thrown out as a hint to the seeker. i thought that was a really smart addition to the game, and it certainly worked great! q seems a bit overwhelmed (understandably) with two little active ones, but they are all healthy and whole and there's something to be said for that. we are talking about sending julia out for a visit with her later this summer...
josh and megan, whose home we have overrun, have been lovely hosts (mostly by being gone all weekend and letting us do whatever we want in their well-appointed house!). i made three lasagnes for their homecoming (they went camping with ficus, the radiantly pregnant heidi, cory, and some other folks who didn't eat with us)... vegan, veggie and meat. YUM! and ficus has the cutest lil chocolate lab puppy.
on the baby development front: linc is clapping when we say "yay," has pretty much quit the "addle addle" and little pony (high whinnying laugh) things, is standing on his own with support and starting to "cruise" from one point to another, has two very swollen gums preceding the eruption of his two top front teeth AND! the day before yesterday, he signed "nursing" with me while we nursed! he also developed a cute little car game, where he says "bop" and all of us say "bop" back, repeat ad nauseum. hmm, maybe he's saying "bob"?
my birthday has been great... julia gave me a beautiful candle holder she'd done glass mosaic work on... really pretty and quite detailed! clayton made me a card, and bill tucked a birthday card in the van's glovebox for me to find this morning... ain't he a sweetie? plus lots of email notes and cards... aren't i the luckiest lady on the planet? (the answer, by the way, is forty-two)
i think i'll go wandering in seattle today... see if i can find a few more shirts. the ones i brought are showing wear already and i'm heartily sick of them. i might have to check out a local yarn store, too...
i'm going to be in davis and sunnyvale next week... i've arranged gatherings in both places. if you haven't been emailed, let me know on my cell email (that's klsabin at tmail dot com) and i'll send ya the particulars.
then we're off for southern california. maybe a quick stop at legoland to see some old friends there... see you when i have connection again!
