So I'm going to be in Denver this weekend, braiding for a wedding. I'll be pretty much on my own all day Friday, and I hope to do some exploring. Does anyone have any recommendations?

(Bonus baby babble: Linc dumped out a little container of crystal beads that were on my desk. I asked him to pick them up, and he said, "They're bumble-beads!")

If you have a car there are naturally a lot of options. For natural wonders, Red Rocks Park is very close to the city, and with a day at your disposal you could easily head south to Colorado Springs area for Garden of the Gods and Cave of the Winds or north for Boulder and Rocky Mountain National Park.

If you want to stay in the city, there are some nice attractions downtown. I haven't been inside the newly remodeled art museum, but it's certainly interesting from the outside. The Capitol has reopened for tours again. Confluence Park is a pleasant place for a casual stroll. Red Rocks would be my personal recommendation, but it depends on what you're in the mood for.

No car. I'm using public transportation (if I can figure it out) or taxis (if I can't).

Is there a funky little shopping/dining area to wander through? Bookstores, gamestores, etc? I'll look into Red Rocks, too.

Thanks so much! I also have Saturday night to kill (flight back on Sunday at noon)

Aside from downtown, you might try to get to the Cherry Creek area, around University and 1st. There are a lot of interesting artsy-crafsty boutiques in that area and it's a pleasant place to walk around. The Wizards' Chest in Cherry Creek may have a few things in the gaming area that would interest you.

Dude, I get so excited about braiding, it's ridiculous! I love to braid, and I love to get my hair braided. I have a feeling when we do meet up I may be asking to trade braids for massage....

How have we not met yet? Sheesh.

I've shown you my braiding pictures, right?

I'm a really hinky massage client. Much better at dishing it out than taking it. Usually I need some adult libation to relax enough to let someone else touch me. But I'd be happy to play with your hair... just ask Megan, I will mess with any hair that doesn't run away from me.

OMG, they're BEYOOOTIFUL! I love them! WOW!

I think my favorite is the "spiral for Eric". That's amazing, and I love spirals. I also love herringbone braids and french ropes. When my hair gets long, I'm hoping that I'll be able to put it up in french ropes by myself (can you do that?).

I looked at the Long Hair Lovers shampoo and conditioner stuff. Do you think that really helps your hair grow?

Thanks! And what a pretty icon, too!

That guy has hair to his butt. He's getting married next year... I've already dropped a few significant hints.

I'd be happy to teach you what I know. It might be possible to put your own hair up in french ropes; I haven't done it but there's no reason why not.

Nope. It's all genetics, I'm afraid. Probably the best things you can do for your hair is NOT wash it often (no more than once a week, don't strip it completely of its own oils when you do), condition, DON'T break it when combing/brushing (especially when trying to detangle wet hair), DON'T EVER use things like blow dryers or curling irons, and stay away from morons who say "trimming the split ends helps it grow faster."

I second T's recommendations for places to go if you have a car. I adore Rocky Mountain National Park, myself.

In the city, the art museum and the Museum of Nature and Science (I think that's what it's called nowadays; I still think of it as the Natural History museum!) are both very worthwhile, as is the zoo if you're into zoos. The new wing of the art museum is mildly vertigo-inducing with its weird angles, but the museum as a whole has some superb collections (especially of Native American art).

Also, just strolling around downtown can be fun.

Cool, thanks! The art museum sounds pretty interesting. And I'm a member of my local zoo, so maybe I could get in cheap/free there.
