lincoln is looking more and more likely to be a lefty, and bill just remembered the other day that "link" is the german word for "left." hunh!
well, i was gonna write a nice long entry about caren's visit, and the dog park, and springtime, and gardening, and our new juggling night, and lincoln's mad giggling fit... but he's waking up from a shortish nap.
ok, now it's 10:30 p.m. and he's finally conked out for the night, so i can type to you folks!
first, here's a link to some of our wedding photos... not many, but a couple. i've been going through them lately for a few different reasons, and i need to start printing 'em out and making an album or two before i start forgetting things. we watched the video the other night, which was cool... but also disappointing. we paid a big chunk of cash to have it taped, and the videographer missed most of the ceremony... he had two cameras on it; the first camera didn't get any sound at all (he forgot to turn it on), and the second one wasn't wired for ceremony sound and wasn't started until well after the ceremony started. GRR! oh well. still need to convert a bunch of files for my sister...
hmm, let's take a look at that list of stuff i wanted to share...
my "best gal" at the wedding, caren calloway, came from california with her little girl, journey, for a quick visit (she's actually in arkansas visiting her sister there, and drove up for a day and a night). we packed a LOT into that tiny little visit, though! we walked down to the little shopping district close by here, and loaded up on the elements of a fantastic italian feast: fresh mozzarella, basil, and bread to serve with tomatoes, avocados, olive oil and balsamic vinegar for an appetizer (but i could've just eaten that and been very happy!), three kinds of tortellini, gnocchi (yes, bill, now i KNOW there's an "h" in it!), some delicious tomato sauce, a tossed salad, and a splendid italian wine. the weather was glorious, lincoln was a sweetie, and we had a great time. journey is almost 4, and she's just a delightful little kid, creative and spacey and funny and bouncy.
the night she slept over, we also had planned to launch our new KC-Metro Juggling Club (i know, yech. i'll think of something clever and funny later, but we had to make something up to get the reservation). we got a free gym on wednesdays from 8-9 p.m., after a basketball group... and a bunch of those players stuck around to learn how to juggle! all of the kids came, and they took turns juggling balls, playing with diabolos, and watching the baby. AND bill and i got to pass clubs finally! it felt great, although i'm still a bit sore in the shoulders... gotta build up those muscles again.
at the end of the evening, as i was packing up the clubs, i noticed a lollipop i'd grabbed for julia from the uu event i juggled at earlier that week... it was a purple heart on the end of about a foot of thin plastic, very sproingy. and that's what she did... as it sproinged back and forth from her mouth, lincoln began to giggle, then to give out a belly laugh, and then he proceeded to screech and guffaw and squeal and do everything but slap his knee and roll on the floor! i was holding him, and i felt him get warmer and warmer... i was worried he was going to pass out! it was very infectious, and soon we were all laughing hysterically. we finally had julia slow down, because i really thought the poor kid must have been getting dizzy or something. he DID sleep well that night... and the next day, when clayton imitated the motion, linc noticed and started giggling all over again!
caren had to leave pretty early the next morning, which was sad, but it was fabulous to get to hang with her at all. so we said our goodbyes, and all went our separate ways.... she packed up journey and headed south to arkansas, while i loaded up everyone but cordell. took bill to stowers, julia to class, and then clay and i took wiley to the dog park. there was a big ol' milk bone truck there! they were taking pictures of dogs, searching for their next box model. so we got wiley's picture taken (he was quite cooperative), picked up some free dog treats, and headed home again.
tulips, phlox, hyacinth, forsythia, dogwood, all are blooming wildly. tons of little violets hidden in the grass peep up as we walk along. all the trees have a green mist around them from a distance, and up close you see the buds bursting forth in slow motion. our redbud tree hails from our bedroom window. and i planted a whole bunch of morning glories... we'll see if they survive or not. put the strawberry plants outside; the lavender, mint, comfrey, thyme, sage, chives, parsley, and ferns will follow shortly, but it will seem so much emptier and less lush in our little sunroom upstairs (where all these plants overwintered). the bougainvilla is still alive, but mad at me.... i think it needs a bigger pot. and every time i pass a store with flats of pansies out front, i wanna go buy a ton of 'em and plant 'em all over the property! moderation, moderation... i did treat myself to a composter at costco today, something i've been meaning to get going since we moved here.
not much else here to report. soccer tomorrow, and skating on sunday. hope the weather stays nice for a bit... but i do love the thunderstorms, too. i've signed up on the NOAA stormchasers list... maybe someday i'll do the class and chase me a tornado! i'm also getting the itch to make a movie... gotta get some film for bill's video camera.
my MIL sent me some HANDMADE knitted socks... just gorgeous! i'll try to get a picture up soon. very colorful, and they don't match.... except the sorta do.... very cool!
doing a tea exchange with some mamas from the Mothering Dot Com board. very fun! i'm also getting some Hanna Andersson outfits for linc there at their "trading post," used but in great condition, very cheap. yay mamas!
man, i'm in a gabby mood, but my laptop is running out of batteries and i gotta go. for the near future (i hope): geocaching, Powell Gardens, coven, cord & julia's job search, bill's quest for cranberry orange bread, walking, cleaning (swiffer/brasso)... that's it for now.... sleep well, all!
