i'll take the trick next time...

ack... didn't mean to let so much time slip by.
last i saw you kind folks, i had come back from the flying k's show. i was feeling pretty good after that, but still picked a fight with bill over him playing his online thing. god i hate that game. joined an online widows group, and see that many others have it much worse than i do, but still... hate it. totally wrecked the great mood i had going.
next day was really busy, hard to remember what happened though. got clayton to a 4-H meeting (he wants to do archery and vet sci and crafts and hiking)... it was held at the same place that another group was getting ready for a halloween party... the same group that kicked out julia and still is squirrelly around me. we got the hell out of there once the 4-H thing was done, felt pretty chilly there for a while.
took clay with me to run some errands, mostly to try to sell some baby clothes and buy a potty for linc. succeeded on the second task, but the first was iffy... sold enough to pay for the potty, so the day was a wash.
saturday and sunday... it's a blur. lots of halloween stuff... took clay and linc to the "boo at the zoo" thing, which was pretty fun. it's aimed more at the younger kids now, which was a good thing for the zoo (less teens, less vandalism). sunday julia and i did the childcare for 4 hours at the unitarian church again, lots of kids this time (but fortunately another volunteer showed up to help). one little guy just wailed for his momma for the whole hour she was gone. i had a headache after that, blah. got home and tried to rest up a bit for the afternoon ritual.
the voices of gaia, the singing group i've joined, performed at the samhain ritual of the gaia community. but we didn't sing until after the potluck, so we got to enjoy the ritual, which was patterned on a day at hogwart's (divination and potions were most memorable). it was really a lovely celebration of the love of magick, learning and fun. the potluck was yummy and our group (all six of us, yeek!) didn't sound bad at all. julia and clay had a pretty good time, too. and i got to wear my new witch's hat, black velvet with little stars on it that light up when you press a button on the back... got lots of mileage out of that hat all weekend, in fact.
sunday night i rallied the troops and we stuffed halloween jokes (plus one five-dollar bill) into 48 black and orange balloons.
linc was up and down all night. sometime in the middle of the night, i noticed he was getting snuffly, and sure enough, he developed a nice juicy cold by the morning. so he stayed home with bill while i schlepped kids around on monday. clay went to gymnastics and met us later at the homeschoolers halloween party (that's what we stuffed the balloons for). i made kitchen sink muffins out of various oddities for the party (about five kinds of reconstituted dried fruit, a yogurt smoothie my sister left, chocolate chips) and they turned out ok.
party went well, clayton guessed the right number of candy eyeballs in a jar and won them all. i spent about half an hour trying to explain a funky knitting pattern to the director of the community center we were in... good thing linc stayed with bill or i wouldn't have been able to make head or tails of it. got home and carved some pumpkins (i'll try to get pix up)... mine had a piece of pie with the "no" symbol over it.
got cord and clay to a friend's house for another halloween party (when did halloween turn into such a huge event? i'm exhausted from all the halloweeny stuff!)... cordell marshalled all the guests out for trick-or-treating while i hung out with the moms (plus an interesting gal who does rollerderby as a hobby... apparently rollerderby is alive and well in KC). then i brought back a bunch of boys (four? i think four...) to spend the night... one was a bit green from all the excitement, so he went home, and the other three made it through the night, mostly by staying up with cord and clay and playing monkeyball bowling.
bill took the snotty baby this morning for a while so i could sleep and then shower, ahhh. then made a pile of pancakes for the bleary boys, one of 'em got picked up. got a surprise phone call from jesse, the only person left from high school that i really talk to anymore, and made plans to connect over the holidays in california. loaded everyone up and hauled them to the bowling alley. i bowled again but did worse than last week (still had fun though). took linc, even though he's not snotless yet... bill needed some naptime (he suspects he's coming down with the same cold). handed off the remaining two boys to their moms and dashed back south for the lego competition program. decided to just drop the boys there and go home for an hour so i could take a breather. dashed back to haul cordell to his japanese lesson, then back to get clay when his group was done.
home again... found the IJA contract in my email box, whoopee! i will be glad to have that behind me. dug up a bunch of old newspaper articles to send in as clips for a potential freelancing job for the kansas city star, made some curry (a mild red one this time), read another chapter from lemony snicket, knitted about 2 inches of I-cord, talked with julia a bit, got sniped for a really beautiful sweater for linc off ebay and nursed a snit for a while.
then i wrote this! i would like to be a bit more philosophical and descriptive, but just trying to remember the basics is enough for now... time for bed now... weren't we supposed to get an extra hour of sleep sometime this weekend? why didn't anyone tell that to the baby?!
