Green trio
Nov. 18th, 2009 07:39 pmWalking out of Whole Foods today, I saw a display of plants in 6" pots: lavender, rosemary and aloe.
I had to give away all three of those plants when I left KC... they had come there with me from California. I also gave away my giant schefflera and ficus trees, and the 20-year-old comfrey from my midwife, all hauled from Davis, but I had braced myself for those losses. The others I had planned to bring with me to Chicago... but for various reasons, had to be jettisoned at the last moment (it was them or the cats, and it was easier to find homes on short notice for the plants).
I hadn't planned on buying plants today, but seeing that display with all three of those lovely, useful growing things really hit me hard. The waterworks began to rev up and after a mental review of the Thanksgiving budget, decided that by going with the local farmer instead of the certified organic local farmer, I could save enough to grab the plants.
They're on my kitchen windowsill now.
Just exactly right.
