Coming home
May. 8th, 2008 12:52 pmI was born in SF (third generation, I've been told), and while it has changed and morphed incredibly over the years, there are some constants that will always make me feel like I'm coming home... the sight of Candlestick Park getting battered by the Bay winds (yeah, yeah, I don't care what the sign says), great food and art, lots of friends, Golden Gate Park, the Chronicle, bookstores, lovingly restored old homes, the FOG (stupid me forgot about fog... in the muggy air of KC, I failed to think about grabbing a jacket). Last night, I ate some incredible scallops and orgasmic chocolate pot de creme served by a sprightly Frenchman, obtained the latest Kingsolver ("Animal, Vegetable, Miracle") and an older Sedaris book ("Naked"), walked up and down hills under a glorious moon in a sapphire sky breathing jasmine-scented air, scored a baffling little antique metal hand-crank kitchen tool of some sort for Linc (out of a give-away box just sitting on the street), sat in a hot tub overlooking Glen Park, all accompanied by wonderful conversation with the lovely and witty
paulaandandrew... and I only just got here! I am a very, very fortunate woman, indeed.
Games party tonight, Berkeley tomorrow, Whole Earth Festival over the weekend... my phone IM is katjekick, if anyone wants to try to get together while I'm tearing around the Bay Area.
