Dead things edition
Oct. 29th, 2007 02:09 pmSo today, after a harried morning trying to get out the door (not helped at all by my sleeping in too long), the van wouldn't start! This really isn't like her... usually she gives me LOTS of warning when something is going to go wrong. I guess after 200K miles, she deserves a break.
So when the tow truck shows up, I cannot find my car keys ANYWHERE. Of course I had them when I was trying to start the van earlier, so they had to be somewhere close to the top of the pile! After tearing up the kitchen, dining room, computer room, breakfast nook, and living room (and interrogating both Linc and Bill), I finally found the spare key. An hour later, after continued digging, suddenly Linc comes barrelling out of the sunroom, shouting "I found 'em! I found 'em!" He'd taken them in there. He's only taken them once before, and my negative reaction seemed to discourage a repeat performance, until today.
Seems the ignition system is suddenly shot, and will take a day to repair. So, I'm renting a car for gymnastics tonight.
The other dead thing is still a mystery. Something died in the walls in the living room, and the stench is horrible. We've got all the windows open, we've searched the whole room, and it's just getting worse. I think it's in the wall between the front door and the big front window (by the diaper table, which made me suspect an errant diaper, but we've cleared and cleaned everything and it's just getting worse.
I suspect that the cure will be just to wait it out (we can't even access the walls for insulation or wiring, much less a search-and-fumigate mission like this).
Sigh.
