Greetings from Soggy Seattle!
Jan. 7th, 2006 07:58 pmDon't get me wrong... I LOVE Seattle. I am very, very happy to be here, and we're having great fun. The babysitter called in sick, so I'm not doing much in the way of gameplaying, but I've gotten to hold a very sweet little baby, see how some other babies have grown into bigger boys, talk with a gal who is growing one of her own (and she was an apprentice to my Davis midwife! small world, indeed!), and (drumroll please) finish my first sock! I feel like a very studly knitter now... it even LOOKS like a cool sock, something I'd buy if I saw it in the store. I also found out that I have a supernatural power... I can kick ass on a game called Karaoke Revolution (sorta like Dance Dance revolution but with your voice instead of your feet... not quite as good for you, but it certainly perked up my ego when it turned out that i'm somewhat of a whiz at it). So in general, this has been a great trip!
Last Wednesday, we flew from KC to Oakland via Lost Wages. The first flight was completely booked and I had a squirmy toddler on my lap for two and a half hours (he conked out for the third hour, thank goodness). We were voluntarily bumped from the second leg, resulting in a tidy travel voucher (they had overfilled the plane with fuel, and needed 11 volunteers to leave the plane, which was booked solid, so not only did we get the vouchers and only arrive one hour late, we got a seat for Linc too). Our luggage arrived a couple of hours later (we were a teeny bit late for the first plane... but the luggage didn't make it on), then we drove up to see my folks in Penngrove.
Linc has performed beautifully for all his ancestors on this trip... not only for my folks but for Bill's mom and dad and grandma, too. He "feeds" us an endless supply of baby toes, shows off his belly button, says "dama" for "grandma," climbed up and down the stairs many many times, danced and sang and clapped, showed off his knowledge of letters (he recognizes D, O, and S)... in general, acting like a brilliant little baby.
We also got flooded out of our hotel in Petaluma, visited with a bunch of lovely folks in Davis (thank you, Cindy, for your hospitality), and hung out with friends in Seattle... a game is in process, so I'm gonna go join in while Linc sleeps... more soon!
