Just heard that Madeleine L'Engle has died. "A Wrinkle in Time" is one of my all-time favorite novels, and Meg a heroine I identified most with. The sky will forever be missing a brightly shining star.

We lost Pavarotti, too... at least he knew about the award the Italian government created to honor him. These things so often happen in threes... I wonder who's next...

Other much more mundane things

Linc is doing great at pottytraining. If his diaper's off, he's 100% reliable. Now to find some dinky underwear... I'd like to find boxers, but I don't know if they come in tiny. He's been on a tear lately, trying to chase the poor cats. I keep telling the cats, "Go ahead, give him one good slash and he'll quit it... try not to hit the face, though," but they're being far more patient with him than he deserves.

Back at the Y again, two weeks now (more on the exercise filter eventually). Saw my doc, she thinks sleep apnea is likely and recommended a sleep study. I need to find someone in-network to prescribe it first (I'm willing to pay for her visits out-of-pocket because she rocks... but anything she recommends we have to find an HMO doc to OK to get paid for). I mentioned that a friend had recommended ProVigil for energy issues, and to my surprise she agreed and prescribed some (HMO will cover any meds she prescribes, just not procedures. Go figure. A month's worth cost me $25, but without insurance would have been $319).

So yesterday I tried my first Provigil (aka modafinil). The upside: I cleaned the whole damned house, did shopping and errands, cracked jokes, and never felt cranky or had the overwhelming urge to nap. The cats escaped their waxing by a whisker... The downside: I couldn't sleep for beans until something like 2am (which may have partly been caused by a hugely spectacular thunderstorm). I decided not to take it today, so I could get it out of my system (though I'm still feeling pretty perky right now), and then try 100mg (instead of the whole 200mg pill) and see if I can get to sleep before the wee hours.

Great stuff. It's also helped my friend with creativity blocks, which would be cool because I'd like to write more again. We'll see how it goes...

Bill got a cold Linc brought home from the Y, so he's been home the last few days. He didn't sleep well last night either, so I'm glad we have a weekend coming up to just get our rhythms back in synch.

I think I wanna do an Equinox Party again this year. I better get on that... just a couple weeks away.

Oh, cool... just got a copy of Kevin Gilbert's "Thud." He's the creative force behind one of my favorite CDs, "Toy Matinee" (a recommendation that I'll forever be indebted to Dan Elektro for). Anyone out there have a copy of "Shaming of the True" they'd be willing to rip^h^h^h part with? (yeah, I've got an eBay watch for it...)

OK, gonna go finish some layout stuff while I have Bill here to corral the Linker...

edited to add: This thunderstorm was the first time the power really went out here (at least, while I was at home). I saw the strike that took out the power: white flash and boom, bright green flash, long bright blue flash (a second, at least), then a huge grinding noise like gears missing their mesh. Then... dark. It was very cool, until that wet-blanket Bill pointed out that no power meant no a/c and no fan. Sleeping in a sauna was NO FUN, especially with a toasty toddler trying to snuggle up next to me. Still, I'm glad I saw it, and I know I'll sleep hard tonight!
