A request...

A very old and very dear friend of mine has a child that is terribly sick from leukemia. Little Henry is about Linc's age, but he's spent a lot of his childhood in a hospital room. He's back in the hospital again, and this time when they got settled, they found that all the DVDs in the ward have been stolen.

Leaving aside the karma that will descend upon the head of someone who would do such a rotten thing, I'd like to ask a favor. If you have a few bucks you'd be willing to put towards this project, here's my request:

Look on eBay for a Region 4 DVD of a favorite kids' movie (I picked WALL*E) being sold by someone who lives in Australia (to keep shipping costs low). Buy the DVD and request the seller to send it to the hospital.

Here's the address:

Fourth Floor Nurses Station
Royal Childrens' Hospital
Flemington Rd., Parkville Vic 3052
Australia

You can let them know that the gift is in honor of Henry Dewar, if you like.

And if you can't afford it, no worries. Just hug your kids, if you have 'em, a little harder for me tonight, OK?

User [livejournal.com profile] shadesong referenced to your post from Monday (http://shadesong.livejournal.com/4181561.html) saying: [...] e a solution to my sleep-dep issue. I don't like it. But I have tested the hypothesis and the results are clear. So. When I take Robaxin, I sleep through the night, and so I should be doing that, at least until Adam gets his CPAP replaced with a different kind, which he is working on.

I kinda really hate this solution. I've been striving all year to be taking *less* medication; I went from three Robaxin a day to zero, and cut my Celebrex dose in half. But if it's the difference between sleep and no-sleep, especially when a highly likely consequence of no-sleep is seizures, I have to suck it up and take it. (Yes, I wake up even through the max dose of Lunesta. I KNOW.)

Considering that my other plan was to completely alter my sleep schedule so I'd sleep 2pm-10pm, wake up and get shit done through the night, and have my work time at BARCC essentially be my evenings, this is better?

Panel signups are open! So sign up! Technically you have til October 2, but sign up now. Also remember that if you have a specific reason you want to be on the panel, or some particular point of expertise, please tell us in the handy-dandy comment box. When assigning panels, I look at the ranking (1-5) and the comments *first*.

Cars is on its way---it's what my oldest wanted to watch last time we were in the children's hospital here.

Thank you, thank you!

That's so wrong. I just tweeted this and posted it on FB. Here (http://movies.shop.ebay.com.au/DVDs-/2288/i.html?DVD%2520Region=Region%25204%253A%2520AU%252C%2520NZ&rt=nc&Genre=Children%252C%2520Family&_catref=1&_dmpt=AU_Movies_Movies_TV_Shows&_fln=1&_ssov=1&_trksid=p3286.c0.m282) is a link to the exact search, to make it easier for others.

Also, I bought Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Yo Gabba Gabba - It's Time To Dance, Sesame Street - 40 years of Sunny Days, and Disney's Sword in the Stone. My daughter loves all of those, and I hope they'll help cheer up some poor sick kid.

Ravelry?

I'm going to post this to the Rav Aussie group. I dunno if your friend is a knitter, but you surely are.

What a brilliant idea! No, he's not a knitter, but he's someone who did a lot of work with fiber as a hair-wrap artist in my braiding booth many years ago. A wonderful adventurous soul, who I'm sure is a fabulous daddy.

Thank you so much for spreading the word!

I asked on fb if they were registered with Child's Play, but I see that Amazon doesn't have an Australian presence. Here are some other Australian online DVD stores - you should be able to order a gift from them and have it shipped to the hospital if you, like me, do not like to do business with eBay:

http://www.dvdwarehouse.com.au/

[identity profile] mamagotcha.livejournal.com 2010-09-20 06:35 pm (UTC)(link)
No, they're not registered with Child's Play (yet). I've emailed CPC to see if they'd do a one-time thing for this hospital, or help spread the word, or whatever.

Thank you for the links, great idea!
