1) Copy this list into your blog or journal, including these instructions.
2) Bold all the items you've eaten.
3) Cross out any items that you would never consider eating.

Hm. Seems I'm a bit more adventurous that I thought. I think they should have included natto, though. Other interesting things I've tried include turducken, creme brulee, ostrich, and kangaroo.

I"m not sure I'd ever eat turtle, mountain oysters, whale/dolphin, monkey, or that poop coffee. What else do you think should have been on this list? What foods push your limits?

they totally should have included natto. and octopus or squid, and eel. oh wait calamari is there. but octopus, non-breaded. that was interesting.

i can't ever do poop coffee. or whale. or turtle. or mountain oysters.

What's missing is soylent green.

You know what I think might be interesting? A meme to figure out those limits. Maybe a list like this:

Water
Air
Algae
Yeast
Grass
Cucumber
Apple
Portabello
Plankton
Tuna
Shark
Chicken
Blue Jay
Garter Snake
Rat
Goat
Cow
Dolphin
Pig
Tabby Cat
Husky Dog
Lemur
Gorilla
Chimpanzee
Republican
Human

Where do you draw your line? What, if anything, is too close to home?

Very interesting list, but I'd certainly reorder it differently... I think the dolphin would be up near the primates, for instance.

Cool idea!

[identity profile] justme8800.livejournal.com 2010-07-19 04:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I suppose that's a good point. I tried to order it by evolutionary distance, but that's not how everyone sees it. OK, part of the meme is also to reorder the list how you see fit!

Yeah, this isn't gonna catch on. XD

What does natto taste like? Where does one get it? There is anecdotal evidence that women who consume various soy products have an easier time with hot flashes, but natto specifically seems to be the only one that helps with bone density. (according to the studies I found when I was researching this, anyway).

You can get nattokinase enzyme at a place like Whole Foods. A really good Japanese restaurant might have it, or know where to get it. I've only had it twice... it's a NASTY texture but the flavor's not bad.

It's not nasty, it's just different. Mmm, natto. ^-^

Friend of mine had this email signature during the months he was working in Japan: Eat natto for breakfast. It will guarantee that nothing worse will happen to you the rest of the day.

Oh darn.

I would happily eat turtle, mountain oysters or kopi luwak (which I've always wanted to try) -- no primates or cetaceans, though.

One of my major lines is drawn at live insects, though I can imagine only a very limited set of circumstances under which I'd try dead ones. And spiders, just, no (though I'm happy to eat crab -- go figure).
