In which we begin and end our day in the dark

The sleep study sucked. I slept horribly, with very little deep sleep, four (!) nightmares, cold bed, cranky tech... whine, whine. I had to come home at 6 a.m. when it was about 7 degrees out and barely able to keep my eyes open (Bill kindly let me get a few hours in before he left for work). I'm going to bed right after I type this. I sure hope they got what they needed because I sure as heck ain't doing THAT again anytime soon.

All day was bone-achingly cold... the high was 21. The living room is comfortable, about 65, and so is the bedroom, but the rest of the house is about 50 degrees and the kitchen even colder (it has no heat source at all, and with letting the dog in and out, loses whatever heat it gains quickly). This was a minor problem because I needed to spend a lot of time in the kitchen today. But at least we now have a clean stove and counters, a pile of sparkling crockery, a slow-cooker full of chicken cacciatore, and a working magnetic marble run with a newly constructed catchbox on the refrigerator.

The eclipse was amazing. Linc, Bill and I curled up in the sunroom upstairs with binoculars and pillows, and watched the shadow gradually march across the shining face of the moon... I really hope Linc remembers this! He actually got a little nervous once he realized the moon was really getting darker, but was quickly reassured. The sky was cooperatively clear through totality, and then a bunch of clouds rolled in. I called several friends who either were already watching and were glad to ohh and ahh over it with someone, or were happy for the reminder. My good deed for the day! (Hm... that might be a cool service to offer: sign up to get a phone call when nifty sky events occur.)

I'll be sure to put you on the to-call list for 2012, then!

Thanks for the call. I was out at a coffeshop and had an amazing view for the whole eclipse. Beautiful colors! Thanks for the muffins and mocha the other day, yummy, yummy, in my tummy.

Dang it! I didn't even know there was going to BE an eclipse. I saw part of it, though! I was driving home and actually called me girlfriend because the moon looked so neat! I had no idea I was looking at a partial eclipse. If I'd known, I would have watched it a lot longer. Poop.

The next one will be December 21, 2010, so mark it in your PDA now... (oh, COOL! isn't that the solstice?!)

Isn't that the faire I met you at? Or am I dreaming?

Your hair definitely grabbed my attention but GOOD, and then I got to know the gorgeous and powerful gal attached to it (and watching you blossom after you deleted your ex was inspirational on many levels).

I've never forgotten that night, either... haybales, Perseids, and a swimming pool full of Rennies... remember that game where guys would carry the gals, and then change partners on a signal? The pool made it so every potential pairing was possible, for every size and shape of every guy and gal... I was too shy to try it, but loved watching.

Love ya! See you at Whole Earth, maybe?

I can't wait to hear if they found out anything from the testing! That would be so great.

We watched the eclipse, too. It was great. :)

I know this is an old post to be posting in, but have you heard of spaceweather.com? They do the very thing you mention: you can sign up for reminders of eclipses, ISS flybys, aurora warnings, and other cool things.

I love getting their emails.
