Solstice night
Dec. 21st, 2007 11:51 pmBracing cold, darkened sky, glittering stars, nighttime hush broken by a faraway train's rumble...
A day of music, of bright conversation, laughter, connection with two warm sparks from a life I left behind when I chose to settle here in this unfamiliar ill-fitting place. A reminder that sharp minds, storytelling, playful banter, delight in discovery and demon-wrestling are all so much better shared in numbers.
In dark times, even when your educated mind knows the sun will return... it's an act of faith for your bruised heart to look forward. The promise of brighter days, joining with like minds, growing in fertile ground again, the loneliness and despair and cold left behind... it's not a fantasy or a dream or a tall tale. It's real and true and clear. There is no doubt.
It's the longest night, and we're all riding together away from our light, our warmth, our star. The wheel turns.
May you each greet the sunrise with hope and strength and purpose.
