Thank you! Yes, I wrote for school papers starting in high school and never quit. That's how I worked my way through college, as a writer, layout artist, camera operator, typesetter and editor for both school and local newspapers (school daily during the school year, local dailies during the summer). Oddly, I never really thought about writing as a career... it was just what I did to earn the money to go to college. It was only when I graduated that it dawned on me that I already was having a career... and earning more than I could with any other use of my degree that I could think of (art studio major, English minor). When the ex moved out, I was offered an associate editor position at the Davis Enterprise, and did that for more than a year... I haven't done more than freelance since then, but the editor there still says good things about me and I'm hoping to use her recommendation to move back into editorial work when Linker's a bit bigger. I LOVE the rhythm and challenge of daily papers, and once dreamed of working for the Chron. Maybe a weekly would work better for while the kid is smaller, but I know I'll be headed back to writing and editing soon. In the far future, perhaps, publishing my own magazine? Ask me someday about "PassionFruit"...
