Big happy sigh!

Several good things happening:

A friend took Linc to the zoo. He's been gone for about three hours. I have gotten a LOT done. Not much editing and/or packing... but a LOT of other stuff! Honest!

I am baking the last calzone we froze from the batch we made for [livejournal.com profile] mogbane's good-bye party (sniffle!). It is filled with chicken in a homemade pesto cream sauce, and covered with [livejournal.com profile] 2006in2006's fabulous crust. It smells absolutely awesome.

In the online-communications department, [livejournal.com profile] cheesepuppet has made me grin and giggle on and off all day. She is a true treasure and a bit of a goofball and one hot mama and apparently a cheap date, too. What's not to love? Bill gave me a borderline-hysterical update on his adventures in West Virginia... I wish I could share it with you, but it's really his story to tell (okay, I'll say this much: remember that leech scene in "Stand By Me"? He's managed to top it). Best of all, I had an IM exchange with someone who started out not so happy, and got them to LOL for real. I hope I improved their day somewhat; I know it has brightened mine significantly. (You know who you are, you rascal! I rented a convertible JUST FOR YOU!)

What did I rent the convertible for? For my TRIP TO CALIFORNIA! Bill urged me to go ahead and plan my somewhat-annual Mother's Day trip despite financial and housing uncertainties. I had Southwest credits, and a cheap weekly car rental code, and a bunch of people to crash with... so I made all the reservations today.

There will be much wine, boardgaming, chocolate, wordplay, tubbing, and food. I'll get to see [livejournal.com profile] justme8800 and [livejournal.com profile] jedusor, and take them to the Whole Earth Festival, where I'll braid hair to raise money for the midwives. I shall marvel over the grand health and amazing ages and the remarkable beauty of all the babies I have been privileged to witness entering the world. There just might be a little more wine and food involved. And garlic fries. Many, many garlic fries.

On Sunday afternoon, I'll head back to Sonoma and visit my mom and dad. Monday night, I'm off to a very exclusive writers' retreat (attendance of 2) out on the coast. Then home and back to unpacking on the 14th.

Everything looks good for WisCon, too... got the flight and con fees dealt with, all I need now is a place to sleep. I come in on Thursday and leave Monday. I've got the C-PAP now so snoring isn't an issue anymore. I won't have a car in Madison, though... anyone out there need a roommate? Finder's fee: I'll treat you to lunch at the con!

Lots of boxes piled up in the entryway. I'm a little over a third of the way done with the book I'm editing. It's a gorgeous day outside, Linc has another playdate for tonight so I can edit some more, and life is looking really nice right now. Thank you, Universe!
