Happy Birthday, Linc!

A link to a photoset of birthday pictures.

On his actual birthday, Wednesday Aug. 6, besides the Breakfast of Sugar and bowling, we also went to the kids' pool and playground near Clay's drum lessons for about 2 1/2 hours, and then he watched his new movie. He said he had a great birthday, and that he was going to be five soon, right?

The day after, we stopped at a toy store. His grandmother had sent a check, and while most of it will go into a savings account, I knew she'd want him to use some of it to get something he really wanted. Ever since he saw "The Sword and the Stone," he's been pretending to shoot arrows with a coat hanger. We've watched a bunch of YouTube archery videos, and it was clear what he really wanted... a bow and arrow set of his own. Now, I know better than to give a four-year-old pointed projectiles, but we found a nice foam arrow set... the arrows are propelled by air, and so far Linc's been really careful about where he aims it. He LOVES it, even though he can only poof the things about 5 feet (fine with me!).

We did his party today (Saturday), and invited mostly friends from the local attachment parenting group. The party was pretty relaxed... no planned games, but lots of splashing in the little pool we have out back (despite the day getting off to a rainy start). People started showing up around 2 and the last left a bit after 7. We asked for no gifts, since we're going to move again soon, and it worked out well... so far, he doesn't associate his birthday with lots of loot, but rather celebrating and fun with his friends. We'll see how long that lasts, but he didn't even notice that he didn't have a pile of presents... the cake, pool, balloons, snacks and romping with his friends were plenty.

It's hard to accept that he's already this big. Slow down, little guy! I'm trying to enjoy every minute of your growing up, and it's slipping by so quickly.
