yay! Hi Katje,

i'm choosing a random thing to respond to. Its not remotely the most important thing you said, just something that i have a thought about at the moment.

Heidi and i have been discussing losing weight. Its my incredibly strong belief that focussing on losing poundage is WRONG. Heidi has recently chosen to have her body-fat-percentage measured, and will be working on reducing that instead of weight. This is an option for you - if you gain muscle you may not lose weight but may be healthier.

I have weird food issues, so my approach is to choose some physical goals - (like racing in a triathalon) - and pursue those instead of worrying about diet. Making progress on some exercise activity should help you be healthier, and may also help you lose weight. Maybe you could choose something like 'walk for at least 15 minutes outside with Lincoln, every day', or, 'work my way up to 50 situps by the end of the year', or even 'buy a yoga tape and be able to do the whole thing by the end of the year'.

I feel strongly that you can't 'diet', you can only make reasonable changes to your lifestyle. For example, you can't go all atkins and maintain it and be healthy. But you can buy wheat bread instead of white bread. It may be impossible to only eat 3 scant meals per day, but, what if you conciously take half the serving size you normally would all the time.

I can't resist things that are in front of me, so a key to success may be to remove excess snacks from the home, or physically leave the room when you are not eating.
